Bristol-based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Munki returns with his new single “Why Wait,” a warm, melodic release that blends romantic guitar work with heartfelt vocal delivery and an organic, nature-inspired sonic palette.
On “Why Wait,” gentle guitar lines drift effortlessly across the track, evoking imagery of open fields, sunlight, and blooming landscapes. The production carries a soft, breezy energy, while the vocals land with sincerity and emotional clarity, creating an immediate sense of intimacy between artist and listener. Despite its light touch, the track maintains a grounded emotional depth, balancing playfulness with a subtle sense of reflection.
Munki—also known as Theodore Blackburn—has long been active in the Bristol music scene as a multi-instrumentalist, world percussionist, and collaborator. His work with the collective Hippo Sound System, including co-producing and curating the album Origins, helped establish his reputation for rhythm-driven, globally influenced soundscapes. Over the past decade, he has also performed and collaborated with artists such as Mista Savona, DJ Hiphoppapotamus, Killabeatmaker, and The Busy Twist.
Beyond his collaborative work, Munki has gained attention for his live looping performances under the name Munki Bongo on YouTube, showcasing his ability to build layered, organic compositions in real time.
Now stepping into a new phase as a solo artist, Munki is preparing the release of his debut EP Four Leaf Clover in 2026. The project explores a folk-leaning, earthy direction while still embracing rhythmic complexity and percussive energy. Built on live instrumentation and raw emotional expression, the EP reflects both his global influences and his evolving identity as a songwriter.
“Why Wait” serves as an inviting preview of this new chapter—offering a glimpse into a sound that is intimate, textured, and quietly uplifting, setting the tone for what’s to come.
