Ghanaian music duo R2Bees have achieved a historic milestone as their 2017 single “Over” has climbed to Number 1 on the Official UK Afrobeats Songs Chart. This marks the first time a Ghana-based group has topped the prestigious ranking, which measures the biggest Afrobeats tracks in the UK based on sales and streams.

Released nine years ago as part of their album Rainbow (with some sources referencing its association with the 2019 Site 15 project), “Over” has experienced a remarkable resurgence.

The timeless track—produced by Killbeatz and featuring the signature smooth vocals of Mugeez and Paedae—suddenly gained massive traction on TikTok, where users created dance challenges, lip-sync videos, and nostalgic content that propelled its streaming numbers skyward.

The song displaced recent heavy-hitters, including Wizkid and Asake’s collaborative track “Jogodo,” which dropped to Number 2 after holding the top spot. Official Charts announced the update around mid-March 2026, with “Over” jumping from its previous peak positions (it had reached as high as Number 2 earlier in the year and spent over 10 weeks charting overall). This makes it only the second Ghanaian song to hit the summit, following another recent breakthrough like “Shake It To The Max” in 2025.

R2Bees, consisting of Mugeez and Paedae (formerly Paedae da Pralem), have long been pillars of Ghanaian music, blending hiplife, hip-hop, and Afrobeats influences since their early hits like “Kiss Your Hand.” This UK chart triumph underscores their enduring appeal and highlights how classic tracks can outlive trends in the streaming era.

The achievement has sparked widespread celebration across social media, particularly in Ghana, where fans hailed it as a proud moment for the nation amid ongoing friendly rivalries with Nigeria’s dominant Afrobeats scene. Comments flooded in with pride: “Ghana is officially on top ,” “Timeless music! ,” and “This is CRAZY!!! .” Many emphasized the song’s refusal to age, calling it proof of Ghanaian music’s global staying power.

As Afrobeats continues its worldwide expansion, “Over” serves as a reminder that great music doesn’t have an expiration date—sometimes it just needs the right viral spark to remind the world why it was special in the first place. Congratulations to R2Bees on this well-deserved and history-making moment!
