Rising indie-rock sensation Mary Middlefield is kicking off 2026 with her explosive new single, “Wake Up!”, now available across all major streaming platforms.
Built on thunderous drums, jagged guitars, and a vocal delivery that refuses to soften, “Wake Up!” is a confrontational, high-voltage track that captures the volatile collision of self-loathing, bitterness, and projection. Middlefield’s lyrics and performance pull listeners into an urgent, spiraling inner monologue, offering a brutally honest portrait of emotional collapse. This is not provocation for shock—it’s a self-confrontation, loud, raw, and impossible to ignore.
The official music video mirrors the song’s intensity, placing Mary in a fractured, claustrophobic space of mirrors, water, and distorted surfaces. Barefoot and grounded, she is both observer and performer, navigating the chaos of her own headspace while commanding the visual narrative. Middlefield explains: “I wrote ‘Wake Up!’ from a place where empathy shuts down and contempt takes over, including contempt for myself. The song exposes self-loathing in its loudest, most confrontational form—it’s about catching yourself at your worst and letting the tape keep rolling.”
Following her breakout singles “The Feast,” “Summer Affair,” “Will You Read My Mind,” and “Bite Me,” which garnered playlist placements and radio support from BBC Radio 2, 6 Music, Radio X, and SIRIUSXM, Mary Middlefield continues to cement her reputation as one of contemporary indie’s most compelling voices. Named one of Spotify’s 2025 Artists to Watch, she is now preparing her second album—a bold, personal exploration of identity, self-ownership, and belonging.
“Wake Up!” was co-written with Anna Borkenhagen and Yvan Vindret, and produced by Gwen Buord, combining Middlefield’s dramatic songwriting with sweeping sonic textures and an unapologetically powerful vocal performance.
