Ghanaian singer Moliy has reached a historic milestone, becoming the first Ghanaian artist to secure a nomination at the American Music Awards.

Moliy earned a spot in the “Best Afrobeats Artiste” category at the 52nd edition of the awards, where she will compete alongside some of the genre’s biggest names, including Tyla, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Rema.

The 2026 ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be broadcast on CBS and streamed via Paramount+, with acclaimed actress and entertainer Queen Latifah confirmed as host.

Moliy’s nomination comes off the back of a remarkable run of success following the release of her viral hit “Shake It to the Max (FLY)” in December 2024. The track, featuring Silent Addy, quickly gained global traction, fueled by a TikTok dance challenge initiated by the singer herself. Its remix, featuring Shenseea and Skillibeng, went on to dominate the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs Chart for 22 consecutive weeks, solidifying its status as one of 2025’s biggest records.

The song also achieved international chart success, reaching number one on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart and earning high placements on Shazam’s Global Top 200, while charting across multiple countries, including France, Germany, Canada, and New Zealand.

Her rapid rise has been matched by major accolades. Moliy was named World Artiste of the Year at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in 2026 and made history as the first Ghanaian artiste to perform at the BET Awards, further cementing her global impact.

With this latest nomination, Moliy continues to break barriers for Ghanaian music on the international stage, signaling a new era of global recognition for artists from the country.
