Okal shares powerful new single ‘No More’

Rising Nigerian singer-songwriter Okal returns with her deeply personal new single, ‘No More’—an evocative Afro-soul record centered on emotional boundaries, self-worth, and the defining moment of choosing yourself after giving too much.

The track is lifted from her latest EP, State of Mind: Out Of The Verse, the second chapter in a larger body of work. While her previous project leaned into introspection and healing, ‘No More’ signals a turning point—capturing the courage to walk away, embrace growth, and reclaim one’s voice.

Sonically, the record blends soft Afro rhythms with soulful melodies, allowing emotion to take center stage. Okal’s delivery is intentionally raw and honest, reflecting not just heartbreak, but clarity, resilience, and quiet strength. It’s a sound that continues to define her artistry—one rooted in storytelling and emotional truth.

Born Omobosola Karimat Alaka in Ibadan, Okal discovered her passion for music at the age of 14, learning guitar and performing with a live band. A graduate of University of Benin, where she studied Political Science, she has steadily built her sound independently—blending Afro-soul, highlife, and contemporary influences into something deeply expressive and relatable.

Her musical foundation was shaped early on by the sounds that filled her home, from legends like Ebenezer Obey, Orlando Owoh, Beautiful Nubia, and IK Dairo, to the soulful influence of Asa, whose music played a defining role in shaping her artistic direction. She also drew inspiration from global acts such as Tracy Chapman, Taylor Swift, Don Williams, Dolly Parton, and Kenny Rogers—a diverse palette that informs her unique sound today.

Over the years, Okal has built a growing audience through a mix of original releases and creative refixes of popular hits, with songs like ‘Know (IDK)’ resonating strongly for their honesty and healing themes.

With ‘No More’, she continues that narrative—but from a place of strength. The single stands as a bold declaration of self-awareness and emotional clarity, connecting deeply with listeners who appreciate the soulful storytelling of artists like Tems, Asa, and Lojay.

As Okal continues to evolve, ‘No More’ marks another defining step in her journey—one that solidifies her voice as both vulnerable and empowering within the Afro-soul landscape.
