Apple Music has officially announced Ghanaian Afrobeats and Highlife artist RCee as the latest act to be featured in its Up Next artist development program in Ghana, marking a significant milestone in the singer’s fast-rising career.
The Up Next initiative, known for spotlighting emerging talent across the globe, continues to serve as a powerful launchpad for artists poised to break into wider international audiences. RCee’s selection places him among an elite group of global stars who have previously benefited from the platform’s reach and influence.
Reacting to the announcement, RCee described the recognition as both a personal achievement and a moment of cultural significance. “I am deeply inspired and genuinely excited to see this new wave of Highlife receiving recognition on a global stage,” he shared. “Being selected as Apple’s Up Next artist for Ghana is not just a personal milestone – it’s a symbol of what’s possible for an entire generation.”
Born Austin Antwi Boakye and raised in Bremang, Kumasi, RCee represents a new generation of Ghanaian artists redefining the country’s sonic identity. Now based in Accra, his sound blends Afrobeats, Highlife and Afro-fusion, characterized by soulful melodies and a calm, emotionally rich delivery that has quickly become his trademark.
His debut EP, “How Did We Get Here?” marked a breakthrough moment, driven by standout tracks like ‘Knees & Bend,’ ‘Amazing’ and ‘Blessings,’ which resonated with a growing audience both locally and internationally. Since then, he has continued to build momentum with releases such as ‘Agenda,’ ‘Atiaa,’ and ‘Knees & Bend II’ featuring Joey B, further establishing his place within Ghana’s evolving music scene.
As part of the Up Next program, RCee will be featured on Apple Music’s curated Up Next playlist, a genre-spanning selection of emerging artists handpicked by global editors. The platform has previously spotlighted an impressive roster of talent, including Burna Boy, Tems, Billie Eilish, Rema, and H.E.R., many of whom have gone on to achieve global acclaim.
With this latest recognition, RCee continues to position himself at the forefront of Ghana’s new musical wave, championing a sound rooted in tradition yet shaped by modern influences. As he continues to push creative boundaries, his inclusion in the Up Next program signals a promising future not only for his career, but for the global expansion of contemporary Highlife
