Ghanaian singer-songwriter Amaarae has crossed a major streaming threshold, surpassing 50 million streams across all credits on Spotify in 2026 so far. She joins a small group of Ghanaian artists achieving this feat early in the year, underscoring the growing global reach of the country’s music scene.
Amaarae becomes the third Ghanaian act to hit the 50 million mark this year. Moliy leads with over 68 million streams year-to-date, followed by Black Sherif with more than 50–70 million, depending on the exact tracking cutoff.
Amaarae’s boundary-pushing sound—blending alternative R&B, pop, and Afrobeats—has resonated strongly with international audiences. The Atlanta- and Accra-raised artist is known for her fluid, genre-defying approach that explores themes of personal liberation and sensuality. Her breakout hit, the “SAD GIRLZ LUV MONEY” remix featuring Kali Uchis and Moliy, has accumulated nearly 581 million lifetime streams on Spotify alone, remaining one of her most enduring tracks.
As of late February 2026, Amaarae also boasted the highest monthly listeners among Ghanaian artists on the platform, reaching approximately 6.7 million—well ahead of King Promise (2.39 million) and Black Sherif (1.95 million). This positions her as a leading figure in Ghana’s current wave of global exports.
The milestone reflects broader momentum for Ghanaian music on streaming platforms. While Afrobeats from neighboring Nigeria often dominate headlines, artists like Amaarae, Moliy, and Black Sherif are carving out significant space with distinctive sounds that appeal to both diaspora and mainstream global audiences.
Amaarae’s catalog continues to perform strongly, with multiple tracks surpassing 10 million streams and her overall career totals placing her among the most-streamed Ghanaian artists historically. Her recent projects, including the album Black Star, have further amplified her presence.
This achievement arrives amid Spotify’s continued expansion across Africa, where playlists and algorithmic recommendations are helping lesser-known voices gain traction beyond traditional radio and local charts.
