With a creative portfolio that spans continents and industries, Ghanaian filmmaker and creative director Zed Benson continues to position himself as one of the most versatile African creatives working today, blending film, design, marketing, and storytelling into a single evolving practice.
At a glance, Benson’s career reads like a catalogue of disciplines. Graphic designer, photographer, marketer, content producer, actor, filmmaker, distributor, and creative director, his work cuts across nearly every corner of the modern creative economy. Rather than settling into one lane, he has built a reputation for constantly expanding his skill set and taking on new creative challenges.
A graduate of Fine Arts from the prestigious Beijing Film Academy, Benson’s journey began in 2009 when he relocated to China. The transition, he recalls, was far from easy.
“Life in China was quite intimidating at first,” he explains. “That was my first time abroad. There was so much to adjust to, the language, the culture, the weather. But I stayed headstrong, and my dream of becoming a filmmaker and entrepreneur kept me going.”
Shortly after graduating, Benson landed his first role at Road Pictures, initially joining as a graphic designer before quickly expanding into multiple roles across photography, video editing, and production. His adaptability eventually earned him a promotion to Creative Director, setting the stage for a fast-moving career in entertainment marketing.
During his time there, he collaborated on campaigns with major global companies including Alibaba Pictures, Warner Bros., Sony, and Twentieth Century Fox, contributing to promotional work for blockbuster films such as Avengers, Tomb Raider, Justice League, and Alita: Battle Angel. These experiences exposed him to large-scale creative operations and connected him with international teams across film, fashion, and technology.

Driven by a desire to explore new opportunities, Benson later worked with Uniway Communications and ME Production Agency, taking on roles as Assistant Entertainment Director and Director of Photography. His growing ambition eventually led him to co-found Dream Team, an entertainment company that organized major events including the Soulja Boy China Tour, the Iyanya Club Tour, and a series of popular summer parties.
The momentum, however, was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting his return to Ghana after nearly a decade in China. Back home, Benson redirected his focus toward building creative infrastructure within the local industry.
Through ventures such as ZEDSTUDIO, where he helps brands develop visual identities, and Cinetek, which provides production equipment for filmmakers, he has continued to support artists, businesses, and creators in bringing their ideas to life.
Today, Benson works across photography and film while collaborating internationally with musicians and creatives across multiple industries. His work is defined by cultural awareness, technical versatility, and a strong emphasis on storytelling.
“Being creative is at the core of my existence,” he says. “I’ve learned to see the world through two lenses, and together they keep me going.”
Despite managing multiple projects and businesses, Benson shows no signs of slowing down. Instead, he remains focused on expanding his creative footprint while helping others realize their own visions.
“The grind continues,” he adds. “I’ll keep telling good stories, helping others bring their vision to life, and enjoying every step of the journey.”
