Odeal explains to Apple Music how traveling across various countries has influenced his musical direction.

The greater your understanding of a subject, the more it colors your perspective. I think that growing up with a “here today, there tomorrow” mindset and constantly relocating with my family has profoundly affected how I view life and process information. It has given me a broad grasp of how people, communities, and music operate, tonality, and everything else. That knowledge feeds into my music because I recognize where each influence originates, knowing it’s a blend of many elements. Even though I’ve spent a long time in London, I feel my music can resonate with listeners in London and beyond.

Odeal shares with Apple Music how witnessing Burna Boy live sparked his ambition to become an artist.

I’ve always loved music and creating it, but it was merely a pastime. Then, when Burna Boy returned to London for his first show in 2017, I watched it and was completely captivated. I thought, “This is a true showman! That’s the path I want to follow.” I wanted to be someone who not only crafts great music but also delivers performances that connect with audiences live, taking it to the next level. Since then, I’ve pushed myself to improve each track, constantly asking, “How will this translate on stage? What will the experience be?” That focus has guided my musical journey ever since.

Odeal reveals to Apple Music the inspiration behind his track “London Summers”.

I aimed to create an anthem everyone could sing along to. I wanted a song that Londoners and listeners worldwide could say, “This is the track I play when I’m in London,” and feel that vibe. While recording it in Los Angeles, the studio buzzed with energy—producers, session musicians, and my London friends were all present. The room was electric; as soon as I finished the track and played it back, everyone was dancing, even those who hadn’t danced there before. A friend remarked, “This feels like a London summer,” and I agreed.

Odeal discusses his track “My Heart” with Apple Music

While still in L.A., the producers, musicians, and everyone present were all instrumentalists. I had just crafted the drums the previous day, unaware they would become part of “My Heart”. I’m driven by rhythms that move people, so I thought, “Let’s try these drums I made yesterday.” They started playing as the beat kicked in. The bassist added a groove, and soon every musician knew their role, layering their own licks. Before long, the song was finished. I know when I perform it, it will go wild, and it carries South African elements in the chorus and chants. I love a strong chant—something people can sing along to—and that South African energy shines through.

Odeal tells Apple Music about his song ‘Patience

The track is envisioned in a Latin American setting—perhaps Cuba or a bar. It captures the moment you run into someone you’ve known before, the emotions resurfacing, and the urge to let go rather than overthink. The song reflects my appreciation for a girl who values patience, taking her time without rushing. There’s a subtle biblical nod (Delilah): she might be a challenge, but I feel she’s good for me. I enjoy the smooth Afrobeats and, occasionally, when a song like this emerges, I want it to captivate listeners abroad. That’s why I included it on the project this summer.
