ODUMODUBLVCK Tells Apple Music How He Feels About Being Called the Best Hip-Hop Artist in Africa
It feels like a blessing. I’ve never claimed to be the best. I don’t believe I am. I simply think that music comes from God, and each of us, in our own ways, are vessels. One thing is certain: I have been the face of Nigerian hip‑hop for a few years now, and I don’t take that for granted. It wasn’t something I set out to achieve; it just happened by chance. Now that the crown sits on my head, I must wear it.

ODUMODUBLVCK Tells Apple Music About the Making of His Mixtape, ‘THE MACHINE IS COMING’
My mindset was simply to display character. Many artists have been dropping EPs, and I thought, “Since I’m the face of hip‑hop, I should act like Lil Wayne in 2007—drop a mixtape, 16 tracks, intense, fearless.” The Nigerian music scene has been playing it safe for a while, so I decided to flip the script. Interestingly, 11 tracks from ‘THE MACHINE IS COMING’ were recorded this year. I was moving with the moment and documenting my experience. The mixtape serves as a prelude to the album.

ODUMODUBLVCK Tells Apple Music About His Track, “LEGOLAS”
“LEGOLAS” holds everything for me. That’s why I made it the opening track. I lost my father in 2021, and since then I’ve literally been following in his footsteps. If you look at my neighborhood, my dad used to pay school fees for 20 people; now I’m covering fees for 30. People even beg me, “Yo, save your money, you’re helping too many.” I reply, “No, I’m not listening to that. I’ll stick with my crew. We’ll reach the top together.” When they say, “If you go with so many, you’ll slow down,” I defy that notion. I stay with my crew, and my momentum hasn’t stopped.

ODUMODUBLVCK Tells Apple Music About His Tracks, “TOY GIRL” and “GASOLINE”
First, I want to give a shout‑out to Juno and Valentino Rose. These two women burst onto the scene! Many people in Nigeria aren’t familiar with them, but they stepped up and claimed what was theirs, delivering powerfully on “TOY GIRL.” Then to Vector, I’ve been telling him—he’s an OG in the hip‑hop arena—that we needed to collaborate. I had this track ready, and I made sure it was polished so he could navigate it easily. When I sent it, he returned it within 24 hours! Imagine spitting those bars so quickly. I truly appreciate him. He’s a legend, a veteran.

ODUMODUBLVCK Tells Apple Music About His Forthcoming Album
‘THE MACHINE IS COMING’ serves as a prelude to the industry‑shaking machine I’m about to unleash. One remarkable aspect of these releases is that they feel like a movie, full of plot twists. I’ve been saying, “The machine is coming.” People assumed it was the main album, the industry‑shaking force, but it was actually a teaser for the wait. It’s an album that promotes the album. And who is this machine? It’s me. I’m the machine that’s been producing; the machine is coming, and the industry machine will arrive in a few months. The world must brace itself, because it’s intense.
