Amaarae Delivers Historic Homecoming with Blackout Concert in Accra

Years after her first-ever concert in Ghana, the country’s biggest pop export Amaarae, finally staged her long-awaited homecoming on January 6 at the Underbridge Annex, delivering a standout edition of her Blackout Concert. In collaboration with iMullar Sound System, the show marked the official close of her global tour for her latest album, Blackstar, and set a new benchmark for live music experiences in Ghana.

Ahead of the event, Amaarae shared the concert schedule via her Twitter account—a move that initially drew skepticism from some quarters. Those doubts were quickly dispelled as the show started and ended exactly on time, even as some patrons arrived after the opening. The precision and discipline behind the event underscored the intentionality of its curation, from seamless set transitions to high-level production and performance quality.

The atmosphere at the Underbridge Annex was electric. Dressed in all-black as instructed, fans—ranging from longtime supporters to creative enthusiasts—formed a strong sense of community within the venue. From the carefully curated DJ sets by iMullar Sound System to Amaarae’s commanding stage presence, the energy never dipped throughout the night.

The experience was elevated further by surprise guest appearances from Sarkodie, Gyakie, F.T.Y, and the Asaakaa Boys, each adding their own spark to an already unforgettable evening. By the end of the show, attendees were left not only with lasting memories but with a clear sense that they had witnessed something special.

The Blackout Concert, presented in collaboration with iMullar Sound System and partners Access Bank, Ecobank Ghana, Hollard Insurance, Enterprise Insurance, Chale Ticketing App, and Republic Bar, will be remembered as a defining moment in Ghana’s live music landscape. More than just a concert, it stood as a statement—proof of what is possible when world-class vision meets local excellence, and a clear tastemaker for the future of live event production and organization in Ghana.
