Amaarae Earns Nomination for Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist at 37th GLAAD Media Awards

Ghanaian-American artist Amaarae has been nominated for Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist at the 37th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, recognizing her rising impact in the global music scene.

The nomination highlights Amaarae’s genre-blending work, which fuses pop, Afrobeats, alternative R&B, and experimental sounds rooted in diasporic rhythms. Her project “Black Star,” first unveiled during her landmark performance at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, continues to gain traction for its bold artistic vision and cultural resonance.

Amaarae, who became the first Ghanaian solo female artist to take the stage at Coachella, used the 2025 set to introduce “Black Star” to a massive international audience. The project has since been praised for its fearless approach to sensuality, self-expression, and sonic innovation, pushing boundaries of what contemporary African-influenced pop can sound like.

The 37th GLAAD Media Awards took place on March 5, 2026, in Los Angeles, with coverage and streaming available afterward on Hulu. Nominees were announced earlier in January 2026.

Amaarae is signed to Golden Angel LLC / Interscope Records and has built a dedicated following through her distinctive style and live performances, including tours and festival appearances that have brought Ghanaian talent to wider stages.
