Apple Music Launches Alpha Playlist Across Africa with Ayra Starr As The Debut Cover Star

Apple Music today revealed the debut of its Alpha playlist throughout Africa, featuring Ayra Starr as the inaugural cover artist. The Alpha playlist spotlights female musicians who are trailblazers and innovators in their genres. Each week, Apple Music will spotlight these outstanding African female artists, exemplifying relentless work and undeniable skill.

Alpha serves as a platform that reimagines what it means for a woman to wield power, ultimately reminding us that strength need not revolve around conflict, protest, or rewriting history.

When discussing the Alpha launch across the continent and its significance for female musicians, Ayra Starr told Apple Music, “It represents inclusion, a victory, and increased visibility for us and our music. It’s wonderful that our hard work is being acknowledged in a manner like this.”

Asked for guidance to emerging female artists across the continent, Ayra replied: “Don’t feel ashamed to rebuild, don’t fear failure. Continuously reinvent and rebrand until you find what works for you and brings fulfillment. Don’t cling to perfection—it’s an illusion.”

This week, Ayra Starr launches the Alpha playlist with her newest single “Hot Body,” a dancehall‑inspired track produced by Ragee and the Elements.

“It’s truly a track for people to flaunt,” Ayra Starr told Apple Music. “Beyond summer, it’s the song you play and it instantly lifts your confidence, making you stride into any room with your head held high. Regardless of body type, it’s for everyone to flaunt their bodies.”

Seamlessly channeling a fiery and sultry vibe, with seductive vocal delivery, “Hot Body” captures the sensation of humid nights on the dancefloor.

Other contributors to the Alpha playlist are Ghanaian R&B and Afro‑Fusion vocalist Gyakie and rising Nigerian artist Salle. They offered their perspectives to Apple Music regarding the Alpha launch in Africa.

“Alpha will shine a vital spotlight on the incredible music women across Africa are already creating. Beyond the songs, it’s also about showcasing our leadership, creativity, and impact in shaping the industry.” Gyakie.

Salle said: “The launch of Alpha across the African continent means a genuine opportunity to be seen and heard without jumping through endless hoops. For too long, we’ve been overlooked, Alpha offers a platform where we can finally shine on our own terms.”
