Ayox Tells Apple Music How He Found His Purpose in Music

I listen to a wide array of music, and I've realized that there's literally no genre that you can create that others can't. It's not about how good a singer you are. There are countless outstanding singers worldwide. My purpose is to arrive in this world, narrate my own story, and share my personal view of life through my music. I feel that this helps me stand out—and regardless, when I grow old, my story will still be conveyed through my songs. I won't just be another artist who came and went.

Ayox Tells Apple Music Why His Music Remains Deeply Personal

It took me seven years of dreaming about music to finally produce a project and an EP. I've always wanted a project that isn't solely about me but also about many people like me—the loners. I feel that sometimes you need a song that resonates with your mood. If someone is feeling down or thinking, “Oh, life is going crazy,” I wanted to create a project they could always return to. That was my first project, ‘Last Son of a Widow,’ inspired by my father's death and my mother's experience as a widow.

Ayox Tells Apple Music About His Track, the Yinka Ayefele Collab, “AYO”

Yinka evokes memories of my childhood. I lost my aunt in 2016, the same year my father passed away. That was the first time I truly understood death because you never see the person again. My aunt used to play Yinka around the house. I would go to church with her. Every Sunday we all listened to Yinka because he was huge when we were little, and he still is. I was just making this song on a random day and told my producer, “I think Yinka would fit well on this.” A year later I texted him, and he did the track! He sent his part within 24 hours. Huge love to him; he made my dream come true!

Ayox Tells Apple Music About His Track, “LONELY NIGHTS”

The EP needed to conclude with “LONELY NIGHTS.” “AYO” showcases joy and triumph over my adversaries, but “LONELY NIGHTS” reminds me that no matter how far I progress in life, I still remain myself, representing the loner. So I wanted to remind people that there are still moments when I feel down during my lonely nights.
