Apple Music has named South African DJ and producer Dlala Thukzin as the newest cover artist for Isgubhu.

“Huge thanks to Apple Music for featuring me on the Isgubhu cover this month; it’s a real privilege!” Thukzin says. “I thrive on collaborating with trusted artists and crafting music that feels authentic and meaningful. Expanding my sound across Africa and beyond is a blessing I hold dear.”

Born Thuthuka Wandile Zindlovu, Dlala Thukzin is celebrated for blending Gqom, amapiano, and Afro‑Tech in fresh ways. He rose to prominence in 2016 when he produced “Umngan’wami” for Babes Wodumo, playing a key role in Gqom’s worldwide ascent.

Raised by his grandmother, he started as an equipment helper for his uncle at local events, igniting his love for music production. His diverse catalog now features the “Permanent Music” series and “Finally Famous” releases, and his 2023 single “iPlan” with Zaba and Sykes achieved Double Platinum status, leading South African charts.

The momentum continues. He has just launched 031 Studio Camp Vol. 2, the second chapter of a popular series stemming from his yearly studio camp in Durban. The release gathers many of the nation’s most dynamic artists and producers for a weekend of pure creativity, and while Thukzin initially built his reputation on Gqom, this project explores deeper into Afro‑Tech and House.

Featuring a signature mix of percussion‑rich rhythms, soulful tunes, and electronic layers, the 8‑track EP showcases Zeh McGeba, Nkosazana Daughter, Zee Nxumalo, Limit Nala, among others. “This project reflects where our sound stands today,” Thukzin says to Apple Music. “It’s about collaborating with trusted artists and crafting music that feels genuine and uplifting.”

To honor his cover spot, Dlala Thukzin selected three songs for the exclusive Isgubhu playlist: “Uzizwa Kanjan” (feat. GL_Ceejay) by Jazzworx, MaWhoo, Thukuthela; “Isaka (6am)” by Ciza, Jazzworx, Thukuthela; and “Cry” by Beekay Monalayzzar.

Regarding the selected tracks, Thukzin says to Apple Music, “There’s a noticeable trend among these songs. Afro‑Tech is thriving! Ciza is blazing and still very young, Beekay Monalayzzar is a thrilling producer to watch, and naturally I had to spotlight my brothers Jazzworx and Thuthuzela.”

Isgubhu also features alumni playlists, editorial selections, exclusive DJ mixes, and more content from the continent’s top dance and electronic artists.
