Gonaboy Is The Featured Artist For Apple Music Rap Life Africa November Edition

Apple Music’s Rap Life Radio, hosted by Global Editorial Head of Hip‑Hop and R&B Ebro Darden, will spotlight the energetic Ghanaian artist Gonaboy this month, as Darden and Africa Now Radio host Nandi Madida discuss his latest EP, MUNIRU.

Coming out of Ghana’s constantly evolving underground trap scene, Gonaboy is an energetic rapper whose 2022 single “Abom” propelled him into mainstream awareness, garnering endorsements from genre stalwarts like Black Sherif and attracting a fanbase largely drawn to the youthful resilience themes in his songs.

MUNIRU represents his first solo release since the 2024 EP Trap Saviors, which featured collaborations with fellow underground newcomers ACE ILLY and Kojo Trilla. In this project, Gonaboy adopts a more reflective approach, delivering emotionally intense lyrics supported by genre‑blending production.

“These records give me the feeling of growth through discomfort,” Gonaboy explains to Apple Music. “They reflect where I’ve been, where I am, and where I’m headed. This EP is about understanding yourself in the midst of chaos, about breaking the box you were kept in.”

In addition to Gonaboy, Rap Life Radio will feature Ghanaian MC Kweku Smoke. His latest album WALK WITH ME showcases a rapper who not only joined Ghana’s trap movement but also helped mold it, maintained his stance, and continued to grow even as the scene evolved.

The show also highlights DJ Sliqe, Blxckie, KindlyNxsh, and issi, whose song “Shake” officially launches Bangerville 2 – a six‑track EP that signals a comeback to unadulterated, high‑energy hip hop.

Spotlight On

Gonaboy is a musician who fearlessly infuses his soulfulness while delving into subjects like family dynamics, ambition, success, relationship navigation, and the challenges of being a young African male. Across every track on MUNIRU, he delivers his verses with the determination of an artist eager to prove himself, yet confident enough to shoulder the pressure.

First To Know

He compares the project’s core to “a young creature kept in a small box; as it grows, the confinement becomes uncomfortable, prompting it to seek escape.” This metaphor mirrors the emotional and spiritual growth of youth pursuing freedom, purpose, and identity within a complex, confrontational environment.
