Ghanaian singer Gyakie has released the official trailer for her eagerly awaited debut album, AFTER MIDNIGHT, set to drop on August 29th – giving listeners a close look at the narrative, essence, and heart of her forthcoming work.
Directed by Alex Piper, a renowned filmmaker who has collaborated with international icons such as Rema, Playboi Carti, and Travis Scott, the clip showcases Gyakie’s craft with a cinematic richness, highlighting her journey from a musically inclined child to an artist embracing her full potential.
Hailing from the legendary Ghanaian musician Nana Acheampong, Gyakie inherits a profound musical lineage, yet AFTER MIDNIGHT stands as her own declaration: an intensely personal collection forged amid the quiet and enigma of nighttime.
The title reflects the time of its creation, as almost every track was composed and recorded after midnight. “Almost all the songs on the album were recorded after midnight,” Gyakie says. “It is within those hours that I find my best inspiration to write. The peace and quiet, the sounds from the birds, the serenity, everything about that time fuels my creativity.”
AFTER MIDNIGHT serves as a soundtrack for the diverse emotions of the late night. It carries themes of contemplation, self‑reflection, and spirituality, reflecting hours of deep thought, prayer, or personal catharsis, linked to a treasured family custom of her mother praying for her and her siblings after midnight. The album narrates tales of love, ranging from passionate warmth to painful heartbreak. It also embraces joy, portraying midnight as the genuine start of celebration, when music, lights, and laughter flow into the morning.
