Odd Marshall Celebrates the Spirit of Rock with New Single “Wreck Your Life (For Rock n’ Roll)”

Singer-songwriter Odd Marshall delivers a high-energy tribute to the rebellious spirit of rock music with his latest single “Wreck Your Life (For Rock n’ Roll),” released March 6. The track captures the thrill of youthful musical discovery while channeling the swagger and attitude of classic ‘70s pop-rock.

Built around infectious riffs and an anthemic chorus, the song carries the same carefree spirit that defined classics like It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll (But I Like It) by The Rolling Stones and Rock and Roll All Nite by KISS. It’s the kind of track that feels designed for loud sing-alongs, conjuring images of late-night drives, rebellious road trips, and the timeless allure of rock culture. Adding a distinctive touch, Mathias Schneeberger’s lively clavinet solo introduces a groove reminiscent of Superstition by Stevie Wonder, bringing a funky edge to the track’s gritty rock foundation.

The song’s origins trace back to a moment of unexpected inspiration. “I saw a Rolling Stones video with the sound off and was intrigued by Mick Taylor’s big broad strumming pattern,” Marshall explains. “Without knowing the song or the riff, I started playing to that tempo, and the original verse riff just landed on the fretboard.” The result is a lyrical collage packed with nods to iconic artists including The Who, Van Morrison, John Lennon, Lou Reed, and Eddie Vedder, among many others.

“Wreck Your Life (For Rock n’ Roll)” appears on Odd Marshall’s sophomore album Seconds, which blends alternative rock, folk rock, and Americana influences into a dynamic and emotionally charged collection. The record features a powerhouse lineup including Rogers Stevens and Christopher Thorn of Blind Melon on guitar, with Thorn also producing and mixing the project. Additional contributions come from Rami Jaffee of Foo Fighters and Schneeberger of The Afghan Whigs.

Across its 13 tracks, Seconds feels like a neon-lit journey through desert dive bars and late-night reflections, where pounding drums and expressive guitar work create a powerful sonic conversation. The album draws inspiration from legendary songwriters such as Neil Young and Van Morrison, while also nodding to the raw energy of ’90s rock records like Vitalogy by Pearl Jam and the stripped-down intimacy of MTV Unplugged in New York by Nirvana.

“This is the first project that Christopher and Rogers have played on outside of Blind Melon, which is significant,” Marshall notes. “I chose these songs, written over a great period of time, to allow these guys to shine.”

The album follows Marshall’s debut LP Sand & Glue (2024), produced by Don Kerr, which reached #55 on the NACC Top 200 and stood as the #1 self-released debut at the time.

With its celebratory chorus and nostalgic rock spirit, “Wreck Your Life (For Rock n’ Roll)” captures the passion, chaos, and lifelong devotion that music can inspire, reminding listeners that sometimes the wildest ride is the one taken in pursuit of rock and roll.
