Belgium-based Ghanaian duo Kwaku Benson and W9anted kicked off the year with a memorable private listening session for their debut EP, Genesis of a Trapper (G.O.A.T), on Thursday, January 2. The event brought together close friends, industry insiders, and music enthusiasts for an intimate celebration of the duo’s groundbreaking introduction to the global music scene.
The six-track EP is a bold exploration of identity, seamlessly blending Ghanaian musical traditions with global influences. Tracks like the energetic “Airplay Mode” and the introspective hip-hop prayer “On My Way” showcase the duo’s dynamic artistry.
Anchored in Ghana’s burgeoning Drill music scene, songs such as “Trapper” and “Bando Baby” pulsate with the raw energy of Asakaa Drill. Meanwhile, “Issues” offers a striking fusion of Hiplife, trap, and rhythmic melodies, narrating the emotional turmoil of heartbreak. Each track on the EP reflects the duo’s commitment to honoring their heritage while embracing innovation.
Speaking exclusively to Revolve Muzic, Kwaku Benson shared the inspiration behind the project:
“This is our first-ever project together, and we’ve been working on our music and sound over the years. Now it’s time for us to share it with the rest of the world so people can connect with our identity and culture. We’ve been away from the motherland, and we thought it right to reconnect with our people, our friends who have shared in our journey, and others who have no idea who we are. G.O.A.T. is no foreign sound. It’s our shared story and notable Ghanaian sounds.”
With Genesis of a Trapper, Kwaku Benson and W9anted aim to bridge their Ghanaian roots with their experiences in Belgium, creating a soundscape that is both innovative and deeply rooted in tradition. This debut project positions the duo as rising stars in the global music scene, promising to captivate audiences with their authentic storytelling and genre-defying artistry.
