Afrobeats is holding its ground where it matters.
Spotify has released its Editors’ Picks: Best Songs of 2026 (So Far), a 50-track midyear list built on exceptional songwriting, musicality, uniqueness, and of course, listener reception. Three Top Nigerian acts made the cut. Rema lands at number five with his feature on Don Toliver’s “Secondhand,” off the Houston artist’s fifth studio album Octane. Wizkid and Asake come in at number 23 with “Turbulence,” the standout track from their joint EP REAL, Vol. 1, released in January through Starboy Entertainment, Giran Republic, and Empire Distribution.
Two entries from three artists that just happened to consist of the Afrobeats king and two of his successors is one interesting list. These acts stay ensuring that Afrobeats continues to have a place amongst the very best.
Wizkid has been here before. Rema is becoming a regular. Asake is building a legacy in real time. Together, across two entries on one of streaming’s most respected editorial lists, they represent something larger than individual achievement.
