Grammy-nominated rapper Wale has released the official music video for “YSF” featuring Nigerian breakout stars Teni and Seyi Vibez, delivering a visually striking tribute to Nigerian culture, identity, and artistic heritage. Filmed in Lagos, Nigeria and directed by Nigerian Alté creative Odunsi The Engine, the video blends contemporary style with deeply rooted traditional influences, further highlighting Wale’s long-standing connection to his Nigerian roots.

Shot entirely on 16mm film, the “YSF” visual unfolds like a moving art installation, weaving together scenes filmed inside an exhibition by acclaimed Nigerian artist Fadekemi Ogunsanya, who was recently recognised as a finalist for the 2026 Loewe Foundation Craft Prize. Known for preserving and reinterpreting traditional Yoruba Adire Eleko textile techniques, Fadekemi’s work plays a central role in shaping the visual identity of the video.

Throughout the cinematic presentation, Wale, Teni, and Seyi Vibez move seamlessly between worlds, dressed in a fusion of Adire Alabela traditional garments and contemporary Western silhouettes, including pieces from Wale’s latest Nike GT Future collaboration. The visual also spotlights the intricate craftsmanship behind Adire Alabela, where candle wax is carefully applied to fabric to create dye-resistant patterns and richly layered designs.

While Wale is widely associated with his Washington D.C. roots and the DMV rap scene, “YSF” offers a more personal reflection of his Nigerian heritage. Born Olubowale Victor Akintimehin to Nigerian immigrant parents, the rapper has consistently embraced African influences throughout his career, but the new visual deepens that connection by celebrating Nigerian artistry, language, and cultural preservation across generations.

Musically, “YSF” blends English, Yoruba, and Nigerian Pidgin, while referencing legendary Nigerian musicians such as King Sunny Adé and Sir Shina Peters. Teni and Seyi Vibez bring additional depth and authenticity to the record, helping create a cross-generational and culturally rich collaboration that bridges Afrobeats and hip-hop with ease.
