Kenyan artist Bryvvn has unveiled his hard-hitting new single BRKN, a raw and unapologetic drill track featuring South America’s rising force MGZA. More than just another release, BRKN marks the beginning of an unexpected yet powerful chapter in Bryvvn’s evolving sound.
The collaboration carries a story years in the making. MGZA first discovered Bryvvn on SoundCloud back in 2017 and became a loyal supporter from the start. In a twist of fate, Bryvvn—then in Cape Town—was introduced to MGZA’s work through his cousin, sparking a mutual respect and a promise to one day collaborate. That moment has finally arrived with BRKN.
The song’s inspiration comes from its haunting cover art, depicting youth in South America trapped in cycles of crime and violence. “I wanted to capture that image from their perspective,” Bryvvn explains. “That’s why the lyrics are so dark.” Recorded in MGZA’s home studio, the chemistry between the two artists was instant, with MGZA’s production elevating Bryvvn’s commanding vocals into a full-on drill anthem.
While fans know Bryvvn for his R&B roots, BRKN marks his debut drill release, showcasing a new side of his artistry. His deep, gritty delivery finds a natural home in the genre, laced with Nairobi’s sheng energy. “I never expected this direction,” he admits. “But my deep voice fits perfectly with drill. I’ll keep pushing that Nairobi sheng drill vibe—though I don’t think people are ready for what’s coming.”
The single also connects to Bryvvn’s journey of self-taught resilience. From late nights in Cape Town teaching himself production, to drawing influence from South Africa’s new wave talents like Nasty C and Shane Eagle, Bryvvn has always thrived on experimentation. That raw, textured approach now collides seamlessly with drill’s intensity, carving out a fresh lane for his music.
With BRKN, Bryvvn signals the start of an exciting new era. It’s bold, uncompromising, and deeply authentic—a statement of reinvention from an artist unafraid to evolve.
