After six years of shaping community-driven cultural experiences in Accra, GoldBlock Party (GBP) is stepping into a bold new era with the launch of Purple, a festival platform dedicated to African dance music, youth culture, creative expression, and global cultural exchange.
Designed as the next evolution of the GBP movement, Purple aims to spotlight the sounds, energy, and creative ecosystems currently influencing contemporary African culture both on the continent and throughout the diaspora. While deeply rooted in Ghana through GoldBlock Party’s cultural impact over the years, the festival will officially launch its first edition in Lagos before making its Ghana debut in Accra.
Additional editions are already planned for Abuja, Houston, and New York City, reflecting the platform’s ambition to strengthen cultural connections between Africa and diaspora communities around the world.
“At its core, Purple is about celebrating African dance music culture in a way that feels immersive, intentional, and globally connected,” said Ewurama Dadson, Project Operations Lead for Ghana.
Unlike traditional music events, Purple is envisioned as a full-scale cultural experience that merges music, fashion, food, art, media, and youth-led creative communities into one immersive environment. The festival will champion genres currently dominating dance floors across Africa and beyond, including Afrobeats, Amapiano, Gqom, Afro House, 3-step, Ghanapiano, Electronic Fusion, and alternative African dance sounds.
Purple Accra is set to make a strong first impression with a lineup led by South African heavyweight DJ Maphorisa alongside performances from Jazzwrld x Thukuthela, Eeque, Jnr SA, Uncool MC, Kojo Manuel, DJ Millzy, Afrolektra, Que Soundz, DJ Williamo, Michael Nichols, Accra Mayor, and Tim Jeezy.
The inaugural Accra edition will take place on Saturday, May 16, at Underbridge Annex in East Legon.
As Purple begins expanding across cities and continents, the platform positions itself as more than just a festival. It represents a growing movement centered on the future of African dance music culture and the global creative communities driving it forward.
