New Afro/Alternative Rock Band AKRA Drops Debut Single, “ACCRA WE DEY”

The Afro/Alternative Rock group AKRA has just launched their debut single, “ACCRA WE DEY,” heralding the start of an exciting musical adventure. Released today, the song provides an initial look at the band’s distinctive style, fusing African heritage with rock elements to narrate everyday experiences in their native city, Accra.

“ACCRA WE DEY” serves as a lively tribute to the hustle, resilience, and energy of Accra, the city the band regards as home. The track encapsulates the daily rhythm of Accra, blending compelling lyrics, dynamic beats, and a mix of Afro and rock sounds. It showcases AKRA’s knack for producing music that feels intimate yet widely resonant.

“This track speaks to our home, our city, and the people who shape it,” the band explains. “We aimed to craft something that mirrors Accra’s energy, challenges, and beauty. It’s a salute to the hustle and the spirit of our community.”

Based in Accra, Ghana, AKRA is a quartet of Afro/Alternative Rock musicians. The lineup includes Joshua Edem Artcher (J_Artcher) on drums, Barinem Samuel (BsKute) handling guitars and vocals, Simon Bowman ‘Jnr’ (Bébé) on guitars, and Jonathan Benjamin Opare (Nathan) on bass. Drawing from their African heritage and rock sensibilities, AKRA crafts songs that narrate everyday life and the realities of their city.

While developing their debut album, AKRA plans to drop additional singles and merchandise in the near future. With their distinctive sound and compelling storytelling, the group is ready to leave a lasting mark on the music landscape.
